Event Catering at Download Festival 2023 – Behind the Scenes of a 24-Hour Food Service

Download Festival 2023 was one of our standout events of the year, and an incredible experience from start to finish. Held at Donington Park, we had the opportunity to provide catering within the VIP camping area — and it didn’t disappoint.

Catering in the VIP Camping Area

We were based in the VIP camping section, where guests benefit from upgraded facilities like improved toilets and showers — a real step up from standard festival camping.

With that comes higher expectations, so our focus was on:

• fast, efficient service

• consistent food quality

Running (Almost) 24 Hours a Day

One of the biggest challenges — and highlights — of this event was our operating hours.

We opened from:

• 6am for breakfast

• through the day and evening

• right into the early hours (sometimes as late as 4am)

Festivals don’t run on a normal schedule, so catering has to adapt. Whether it’s early morning coffee or late-night food after the headline acts, demand is constant.

Huge Demand & Selling Out Early

The turnout at Download Festival was massive, and demand exceeded expectations.

By just day two of a six-day event, we had completely sold out of stock — something that rarely happens and a clear sign of just how busy the event was.

It’s a great example of how important planning, stock management, and speed of service are when catering at large-scale events.

The Festival Experience

Despite the pace of service, our team still managed to catch some of the action, with performances from Metallica, Slipknot, and Evanescence across the weekend.

It’s one of the unique parts of festival catering — being part of the atmosphere while delivering a high-volume service.
