Pizza, your go-to movie time or Saturday night snack has a rich and long history. It is widely believed that modern pizza has its roots grounded between the 16th and mid-18th centuries and was invented by a baker Raffaele Esposito. The very word ‘Pizza’ was hence coined or documented in AD 997 in Gaeta. It later spread to different parts of Southern and Central Italy.
Now that we have the backstory of our good old Pizza, let's head towards the kitchen to make one. We know how much you rolled your eyes and raised your eyebrows on that thought. Let’s Start Making the Pizza
Creating the Dough
When it comes to pizza, the dough becomes the determining factor of your pizza’s taste, flavour and quality. A good pizza dough serves as the base of the pizza, a correct density includes the sauce perfectly within itself and holds the toppings accurately so you get the perfect pizza every time. The consistency and the procedure of the same holds special importance here and hence getting the dough right is the special ingredient to your pizza.

Mixing the Sauce
Take a small bowl, add the tomato sauce, dried oregano, dried basil, garlic powder, salt and pepper.
Mix well and keep aside. (You can add onion powder, dried thyme, and paprika too according to your taste, remember the tomato sauce is sour by itself, hence be careful while adding salt).
Preparing the Pizza
Preheat the oven to 475°F.
Take your risen dough, punch it down and divide it into 2 equal portions, depending on the desired thickness of the crust. If you wish for a thicker crust, the entire dough can be used.
On a floured tabletop roll out the dough. Transfer it to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. (If you are feeling extra adventurous, you can brush some melted butter on the parchment paper for that extra taste and softness).
Spread a thin layer of tomato sauce on the rolled dough, leaving the edges.
Sprinkle a good amount of cheese on the sauce. (Mozzarella cheese is suggested for this Pizza since its consistency resonates perfectly with the baking process)
Arrange the pepperoni slices on top of the cheese and top it off with some Parmesan/Mozzarella.
Baking Process
Place the pizza in your preheated oven and bake for about 12-15 minutes, until the crust is golden brown and the cheese bubbles and is slightly charred.
Stop the oven and give it some resting time and the heat to coagulate.
Slice up and enjoy!
